Marriage – from struggle to strength

Hey it’s okay. We don’t get a manual for marriage. Sometimes we can feel disconnected, frustrated, or sad about our marriage? I get it – I’ve been through separation (but remarried!). Marriage can be tough, and it’s easy to feel like you’re the only one struggling. But here’s the truth: every marriage has its ups and downs.

Here are three tips to help you navigate the tough times:

  1. Allow yourself to feel: It’s okay to acknowledge and validate your emotions, even if they’re negative. Bottling up your feelings can lead to more harm in the long run.
  2. Communicate with empathy: Try to understand your partner’s perspective, even if you don’t agree. Remember, you’re on the same team!
  3. Take small steps towards connection: It doesn’t have to be grand gestures. Start with small moments of connection, like holding hands or having a meaningful conversation.

Remember, marriage difficulties don’t mean you’ve failed. It means you’re human. By making small changes within yourself, you can start to heal and strengthen your relationship.

Counselling offers the opportunity to chat about your relationships and start feeling better about your connections.
