Breaking Up With Goal Setting

The pressure to set goals at the start of the year can be super overwhelming. Suddenly social media is flooded with posts about ‘living your best 2025’.

Unrealistic expectations, fear of failure, and rigid plans can lead to increased stress and anxiety. Instead of feeling motivated, many people feel burdened by their goals.

But there is another way. A gentler way.

Intentions

Ditch the daunting New Year’s goals and try setting daily or weekly intentions instead! Focus on small, achievable steps that align with your values.

Seriously, it’s that simple.

This approach is more flexible, you get daily or weekly wins and is less punishment when you can’t get to the gym or do a particular task on a day.

How I do It

  1. Health is important to me, so I make an intention for daily movement.
  2. I say it to myself as I’m getting out of bed.
  3. Some days, it’s just about tackling the little tasks at home, one trip up and down the stairs at a time
  4. Other days is walking at least once to work.
  5. There is NO pressure for what day and how long. Just an intention to move.
